CALL FOR TENDERS On behalf of the National Museum of Australia, the Department of Communications and the Arts is seeking two Consultants to advise on technical operations and exhibition planning for the new National Museum. In January 2001, Acton Peninsula in Australia's capital city, Canberra, will become the home to three cultural institutions·the National Museum of Australia; the Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies; and the ACT Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Cultural Centre. The facilities are the Commonwealth government's flagship contribution to the Centenary of Federation celebrations. It is envisaged that the National Museum of Australia will be a model of innovation in successfully exhibiting its collection and temporary displays; and presenting programs and services to Australian and international visitors, while realising efficient, cost-effective long term operations. Construction will begin in late 1998. DIRECTOR: EXHIBITION PLANNING Tenders are invited from Consultants who will direct the development of the exhibition content and work with the exhibition designer(s) to translate the content into exciting opening and permanent displays. The Consultant will: ? provide the overall framework for the Museum's exhibition masterplan in consultation with the Museum Council, Museum staff, the Department and strategic advisory groups; ? develop strategies for obtaining national support for the project through advisory groups or other means; and ? advise on the relocation of the Museum's collection into the completed galleries.
