It would be helpful if you would describe the fabric more fully.
What is its texture (cut pile? looped pile? ribbed? smooth?)?
What is the fiber (silk? cotton? wool?)? Look at the fabric under
magnification: is there more than one warp (the vertical threads) or weft (the
horizontal threads) in the ground weave, or is the "chenille" just tufted into
an already woven fabric? What is the sort of pattern repeat? And what was the
socio-economic level of the people who lived in the house (meaning, "what could
they afford?")?
