The Cultural Resource Managment Program at the University of Victoria is working with the University of Zagreb to offer a six-day symposium for museum professionals in May 1998 at the InterUniversity Centre in Dubrovnik, Croatia: TOWARD A MUSEOLOGY OF RECONCILIATION The Dubrovnik Inter-University Centre (IUC) in Croatia provides a unique setting in which participants and scholars from the European and North American museum communities will come together for six days to explore the function and the role of museums before, during, and after times of armed conflict. Using the presentation techniques of symposium, seminar, and field school, combined with study visits to local museums, historic sites, and monuments, participants will focus on a range of topics, including the use of cultural heritage to reconcile communities in conflict, and role of museum collections in the development of a new consciousness for peace and security. This course revives the International Museology Series which was offered at the IUC over four summers, before being interrupted by war. The re-establishment of the course has been encouraged by ICTOP, and features keynote papers by distinguished museum professionals. North American participants should register through the University of Victoria on either a credit or non-credit basis. European participants should apply through the University of Zagreb.
