David Baccadutre asked for museums using 'discovery drawers'. The Museum of Sydney has made a feature of modernised 'cabinets of curiosities' which are one of the practical implementation of curator Peter Emmett's theme of a 'Pandora's box'. These stainless steel cabinets with shallow drawers, each draw lit internally, contain a variety of objects with often contradictory and challenging juxtapositions. The museum's exhibition style have been the subject of discussion and I am sure other Australian members will have some comment on this in general and the cabinets in particular. For construction details I am sure someone from the Museum will respond or be able to provide details. >Is there anyone that could furnish information on discovery drawers? >(Success, accessability, fabrication, organization of, etc.) We are >considering their use as a major component of a new exhibit. > >David Baccadutre >Exhibits Dept. >New Mexico Museum of Natural History & Science ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dr Robin Trotter Australian Key Centre for Culture and Media Policy Faculty of Humanities Griffith University Nathan. 4111 Phone: 07 3875 7338 Fax: 07 3875 5511 e-mail: [log in to unmask]
