Please excuse any cross-postings of the following announcement/request. I am pleased to announce that The Papers of Philander Chase is underway! Though a fairly small project, The Papers of Philander Chase will, in the coming years, make available thousands of pages of primary material on such topics as early American history (especially Ohio and Illinois), the early history of the Episcopal Church, higher education in early America, and many others. Philander Chase was the first Episcopal bishop of Ohio and Illinois (he also served as Presiding Bishop), as well as the founder of Kenyon College in Gambier, Ohio and Jubilee College near Peoria, Illinois (though now defunct). His papers (some 4000 letters, hundreds of sermons, dozens of pamphlets, memoirs, diaries, and other documents) provide a wonderful insight into Chase's life and work. I hope that those interested will visit the Chase project homepage at http://www.kenyon.edu/khistory/chase. An important aspect of the early part of the project is the search for documents. Having already performed the basic searches (i.e., NUC, OCLC, LC, etc.), I am now asking any institutions who know of Chase items that may not be represented in catalogs to contact me. As I want this edition to be as complete as possible, I want to find any Chase item I can, no matter how seemingly insignificant. If you know of any Chase items, please contact me ([log in to unmask]). Thanks, Andrew S. Richmond ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Andrew S.
