Quoting Krasimir Damjanov: > after having read Cary Karp's mail I auggest to move to > Museum-L discussion list. CK is right about the purpose of > ICOM-L. One of the purposes of ICOM-L is to provide a means of establishing contact with the members of ICOM's specialist committees. Last month's discussion of museum documentation centers provided what I thought to be a good example of committee response -- by CIDOC (ICOM's International Documentation Committee) and the Africom Internet Working Group -- about their activities relevant to an issue raised by a list member. A significant problem with group e-mail communication is that it can be difficult to decide which of many apparently similar distribution lists to target for a given topic; nor is it regarded as polite to abdicate responsibility for this decision and hit every list that might be relevant. If an issue lies within the mandate of an ICOM Committee, or if it appears reasonable to state it in terms that are likely to elicit a pointer in the direction of ICOM activity, ICOM-L is a good choice. If you are looking for a large number of rapid responses in a matter that is unlikely to sustain protracted discussion, MUSEUM-L may prove a better bet. Cary Karp <[log in to unmask]>
