POSITION DESCRIPTION REGISTRAR REPORTS TO: Museum Director DIVISION UNIT: Museum DEPARTMENT: Registrar SCOPE: Manage collection records and information services for a mid-sized museum with approximately 1.5 million artifacts. Supervise a staff of five as well as several volunteers, interns, and work study students. Perform the duties of system manager for a 31-station LAN utilizing Netware 4.1 and provide support for staff use of MS-Office applications. STRUCTURE: Reports to the director of a university museum which is part of West Texas A&M University, a part of the Texas A&M University System. Acting as Registrar, employee will interact with curatorial staff, be a member of the Staff Collections Committee, and interact with the Board Collections Committee. Acting as systems manager, employee will interact will all levels of Museum staff regarding information systems network, hardware, and software. Employee will supervise a staff of five. RESPONSIBILITIES: Plan and/or supervise all museum information systems operations including user training, PC support, network administration, database admininstration, data extraction and manipulation, desktop and notebook computer installation and upgrades, software installations and upgrades, and WWW page development. Oversee all museum registration functions including processing and registering new acquisitions, deaccessioning, processing incoming and outgoing loans, managing documents and records, collections inventory, and data entry. Assist with planning and implementing extensive museum renovation including active participation in a move of the collection into secondary storage and back as well as assessing renovation impact on information systems and collections processing. Develop and administer department schedules and budgets. Maintain and update departmental long-range plans. Manage development of procedures manuals. Prepare status and progress reports. Perform annual evaluations of permanent departmental employees. QUALIFICATIONS Required: Bachelor's degree in Information Systems Management, Museum Registration, Museum Studies, or related field. Five years related experience, including museum registration and information systems management in a networked environment. Must be knowledgeable in current professional museum practices. Extensive PC skills and SQL-based relational database management experience, including complex querying, reporting, and application exchange. Supervisory experience required. Preferred: Netware 4.1 administration experience. Extensive experience with Vernon Systems Ltd. Collection or Advanced Revelation. MS-Office application use and integration including OLE and DDE. TERMS: The normal work week is 40 hours per week, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM; hours outside the normal work week are frequently necessary.
