As a former shop manager and as a person that puts on training
workshop dealing with shop management, I have always felt that the
shop should be seen as an extension of the museums programming that
also makes money.

The Museum Store Association published their revised Code of Ethics
in 1996 ( MSA, 501 South Cherry St., Suite 460, Denver, CO
80222-1325, [306] 329-6968). In the code it is clear that replicas
should be marked as such. The issue of actually selling antiquities
is less clear as the code only refers to the sale of "illicitly
acquired" material as being wrong.

I personally also have a lot of difficulties with the reproduction of
aboriginal material without permission.
