We use the Inform audiotour system. It is extremely popular with visitors,
and we feel it is a great interpretive tool. The audioguides include
artists' speaking about their works in our collection that are on view, in
addition to curatorial voices giving more general background info.

When we began, we had a charge (I think $2) to use the tour in addition to
general admission ($4). There was not that much usage of the system. So we
opted to eliminate the charge altogether and now offer it free with paid
admission (or free to members). The usage went up dramatically. We figure
we'd rather have people using them freely, and find funding from a corporate
sponsor to underwrite the costs. It's a very "sponsor-able" kind of expense.

Our system is currently in English, but in the next few months we will
implement a Spanish version, too.
