Position Opening - Education Coordinator Museums and Collections Services, an innovative service unit of the University of Alberta, seeks a dynamic and versatile individual to develop a range of training and public programming activities that facilitate access to the University's diverse collections, and provide collections-based training and learning opportunities. The University's collections consist of over 17 million objects and specimens, housed in various academic units and buildings across campus where they are used in teaching, research and community service. The Education Coordinator will work in a team-based collaborative environment, reporting to the Manager, Communication Program of Museums and Collections Services. Duties are project-oriented and include: -developing a core curriculum in museum practice that will have a range of applications in the university context -developing a training program for students, staff and volunteers to manage an art-related facility -developing a volunteer program that provides opportunities for individuals from on and off campus to participate in the activities of the University's collections -providing assistance in training delivery projects of the department -assisting with planning and implementation of public programming initiatives including workshops, tours, lectures -assisting with exhibition research, writing and development -assisting with communication activities such as newsletter writing, brochure development, press releases -liaison with the Friends of the U of A Museums -developing methods to evaluate training and public programming initiatives -research and writing for policy and procedure development -implementing needs assessments -preparing funding applications The ideal candidate will have a university degree in museums studies, education, or a related discipline, with a minimum of three years experience in a museum, or related setting. A broad understanding of curriculum development, training techniques and methodologies, learning theory, volunteer coordination, program development, and evaluation techniques is required. Experience with both exhibition development and public programming is required. The candidate will be fully conversant with all aspects of museum practise, have excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to deal effectively with people of varying experience and expertise. Excellent organizational skills, written and oral communication skills are required, as is a proficiency with computers and word processing. Must be able to work simultaneously on multiple, and diverse tasks. This is a term position with the possibility of renewal. The monthly salary range for this position is $2372 - $2989 per month.
