Panzer I tanks are extremely rare and we have been told that ours is worth up
to $CA250,000. Why would we want to sell it? It really has nothing to do with
Canada's military history, as they were all out of service by the time our
campaigns on land were fought. We would be willing to sell or trade it for
something significant to OUR mandate. The same is true of the Italian tankette,
which we have offered to the Kiwis. Both vehicles are of course interesting,
from the perspective of the development of armoured fighting vehicles in
general. However, given that we have no money whatever for new acquisitions,
selective disposal of the items in our collections of least significance to our
mandate would seem to be the only way to build up the areas of the collection
of most significance to it.
