Gente/People: I want to begin an on-going dialogue with Latinos and interested parties on Museum-L on the state of participation of Mexicans, Mexican-Americans, Chicanos, Puerto Ricans, Cubans and other Latino groups in administrative and curatorial positions or those aspiring to such positions in U.S. museums. As part of this dialogue I also want to address the lack of Latino art critics in national press and art magazines. If you'd like to participate in this dialogue (it won't be a listserv), I invite you to return this initial e-mail if you're interested. My questions specifically are: Why aren't more Latinos employed in administrative and curatorial positions? Why aren't Latino students being exposed to working in museums as career options? What kinds of opportunities are available for Latinos or any person of color to intern in museums? Is there a need for museums to address the lack of representation of multicultural people in administrative and curatorial positions? Why or why not? Sincerely yours, Miguel Juarez El Paso, Texas If the topic does not interest you, please disregard. Thank you. >
