One of the most critical areas to those of us who work with historic structures is access. "The Accessible Museum: Model Programs of Accessibility for Disabled and Older People", first published in 1993, is still current in its treatment of ADA law, and provides excellent examples of low cost ways of working with visitors. A new video, "Everyone's Welcome: Universal Access in Museums", is a 24 minute video to assist your Board of Trustees to understand the obligations of the law and will help staff and volunteers understand the importance and relative ease of working with disabled visitors. Low cost, creative ideas on how to work with more than 40 million Americans who are disabled and want to be visitors and support our organizations are presented in the video. The book and video can be ordered from: American Association of Museums PO Box 4002 Washington, DC 20042-4002 Phone: 202-289-9127 Education can be a successful antidote to intolerance and ignorance.
