<To me, xeroxing sounds unacceptable conservationally. Does <anyone have any experience with cheaper alternative methods <of reproducing photographs? Response posted for Claudia J. Berg, Curator of Exhibits, SHSND - We occasionally use color copies in exhibits. In most cases they work quite well and seem to be as durable as a photo. They are also faster and much less expensive; the catch is 11" X 17" is the largest format without splicing an image. If you are looking for mural size images, there are companies that do this. I can't give you costs but I would guess a full color mural through a computer-generated image is less costly than a photo process. As for the conservation concern, our archives department does not seem concerned with the copy process as something detrimental to the original image. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - C.
