NETWORK COORDINATOR Museums and Collections Services, an innovative service unit of the University of Alberta, seeks a dynamic and versatile individual to provide overall coordination of the Alberta museum network (a joint initiative of the University of Alberta and the Alberta Museums Association). This opportunity will facilitate the Alberta museum community's use of new technology as a tool to create, share and exchange information about their collections, and the cultural and natural heritage represented therein. The Network Coordinator will work in a team-based collaborative environment, reporting to the Collections Management Coordinator of Museums and Collections Services. Responsible for the daily operations of the network, the Network Coordinator maintains a current email directory of the Alberta Museums Association membership; administers the network listserv; facilitates the implementation of the network team structure; investigates the potential of a bulk order software purchase for collections use; arranges Internet access and training in co-operation with the Canadian Heritage Information Network; organizes the delivery of information management training; maintains a help desk to answer network participant inquiries; ensures access to network actitivities via related online community networks; and coordinates Alberta museum contributions to Canadian Heritage Information Network initiatives. Communication activities include fostering contact among network participants, partners and service providers; maintaining discussions with other regional museum networks and associated consortiums; and representing the Alberta museum network to external groups and potential members. Other duties include policy administration, maintenance of network documents, research, report writing, and funding application preparation. The ideal candidate will have a museum studies, information studies, communications, education or related degree with a minimum of two years relevant experience. A broad understanding of information automation, telecommunications and emerging technologies is required, as is an understanding of the communications and information needs of heritage organizations of varying types and sizes. The candidate will have excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to deal effectively with people of varying experience and expertise. Excellent written and oral communication, and group facilitation skills are also required. The monthly salary range for this position is. $2,565 - $3253.
