Dear Colleagues: NAME, the National Association for Museum Exhibition, is working to place three candidates on the ballot for the Board of Directors of the American Association of Museums. The NAME Board believes that only by placing NAME members on the Board of AAM will issues that affect museum professionals involved with development, design, and production of exhibitions be addressed by AAM in the context of the larger issues facing museums. The candidates are Diana Cohen Altman, Jim Volkert, and Claudia Oakes. Diana is Editor of the Exhibitionist and Writer for Office of Exhibits Central/Smithsonian Institution. Diana has elevated the Exhibitionist to the position of being an important and frequently cited journal of the profession. She is familiar with the issues affecting all museums. Jim Volkert has served NAME as Regional Representative, 1st Vice President/Program Chair and Chair and Board Member. He is the Deputy Director for Design, National Museum of the American Indian. Through his work with this museum and others around the country, Jim has developed a broad perspective regarding museums and exhibitions. Claudia Oakes serves as the State Coordinator for Utah and as Director of Public Programs for the Utah Museum of Natural History. From her work at National Air and Space Museum and the Milwaukee Public Museum, she brings a balanced approach to any consideration of museum issues. In order for the NAME candidates to be placed on the ballot, each candidate must gather 342 signatures of current AAM members and submit them to AAM by December 6. The form must be mailed to the address shown on the form by November 30th to the NAME Secretary.
