SCIENCE CENTRE, Wollongong, Australia Manager of Visitor Services Fixed Term Appointment 2 Years The Science Centre provides hands-on science activities for both schools and the public. In 1997 the Centre will be expanding its activities to include outreach programs and will be building an innovative Astronomy Centre incorporating a planetarium and public observatory. As part of this development the Centre is seeking a Visitor Services Manager (VSM) to manage the Centre's activities on a day to day basis. As the Science Centre is open 7 days per week, some weekend work will be required. The main role of the VSM will be to supervise the staff during public sessions and school visits. The successful applicant will be an energetic person with demonstrated supervisory skills in a Science Centre or similar environment. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential and a familiarity with scientific equipment is important. The VSM will contribute to the innovative atmosphere of the Centre by assisting in the development of new exhibit ideas. A University degree in Science is essential. The VSM will be required to represent the Centre during absences by the Director and thus must be able to interact effectively with external sponsors, schools, the media and members of the public.
