SPECIAL PROJECT ASSISTANT Museums and Collections Services, an innovative service unit of the University of Alberta, seeks a dynamic and versatile individual to provide assistance with the Information Access Initiative. Currently in its second year, the purpose of the Information Access Initiative has been to develop information management resources in consultation with representatives from museums, galleries and heritage organizations across Alberta, and to investigate the potential for network development within the provincial heritage community. The launch of an electronic network linking this community is planned for late 1996. Reporting the Project Leader, the incumbent will be responsible for assisting with the following: development of a strategic marketing action plan to secure network support within the public and private sectors; preparation of funding applications and evaluations; finalization of key project documentation; development of various conference session and related presentations; coordination of workshop schedules, arrangements and materials; and other duties as required. Job qualifications include: university degree in information studies, communication and/or education; strong general knowledge of information management standards; a broad understanding of the automation of heritage information, telecommunications and emerging technologies; excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to deal effectively with personnel representing varied levels of experience and expertise; excellent written and oral communication, and group facilitation skills; an understanding of the needs of heritage organizations of varying sizes and types; and flexibility in a continually changing environment.
