Sorry to come late to this - apologies for any duplicate answers. A friend
of mine is fascinated with and cultivates artichokes. They're actually
related to thistles. In fact, if you let one "go to flower then seed,"
you'll notice it looks like a HUGE thistle - complete with the purple tuft
of pollen-soaked petals. I'm sure Donna (my friend) has more information.
I'll ask her this afternoon and e-mail again this evening.
