"More Space/New Place, Planning and Building New Academic Museum
Facilities" the 1996 ACUMG mini conference will be held in conjunction
with the AAM Annual Meeting in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The mini
conference is scheduled for Saturday, May 4, from 8:15am-4:00pm at the
Minneapolis Hilton. The conferernce will explore the important aspects
of planning and constructing new museum facilities in an academic
institution. Issues addressed will include: building from the ground up,
architects, the role of the parent institution and academic departments,
infrastructure, audience, funding, and staffing. Issues related to
retrofitting existing structures and "adding on" will also be presented
by a number of speakers that include both academic museum directors and
architects. Break-out sessions will follow the presentations.
