Museum Education Internship The Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum is offering a unique summer opportunity for qualified students. The Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum is located in a city of 38,000 people and benefits from wide community support. The museum includes many fine temporary and permanent exhibits as well as an outdoor sculpture garden. Position Summary: The intern will work under the direction of the Curator of Education. The student will actively participate in summer museum education programs and assist in researching and preparing materials for schools and volunteers to use during the upcoming academic year. Duties include: * Researching the Museum's exhibitions for upcoming academic year and works with Curator of Education to design related curriculum materials and pre-visit packets for schools. * Leading interactive gallery tours. * Assisting with promoting and coordinating special summer programs designed for the public. * Designing interactive gallery activities for docents to use with school audiences. * Assisting in organizing Museum resources designed for use by teachers * Attending bi-monthly staff meetings Qualifications: Graduate students preferred, undergraduates considered. Good communication skills, an interest in pursuing a career in museum education, museum studies or related major required, some prior museum experience required, enthusiasm. Duration and Compensation: The internship spans 12 weeks at 40 hours per week. Pay is $5.00 an hour. Will assist in finding housing.
