The director will have overall responsibility for fund raising, marketing, budget preparation, grant-writing, business planning, maintenance of National treasures, solicitation of space artifacts and hardware, and creation of exhibits, programs and services. The Director will determine operational objectives and develop and administer procedures to ensure meeting them. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Manage and direct all staff and provide in-service training regarding public relations, marketing, educational services and museum functions. Perform curator responsibilities for exhibits, space artifacts and National treasures in accordance with accepted museum practices and the contracts, rules and regulations established by NASA and the Smithsonian Institution. Keep abreast of the latest museum practices, space technology, and the availability of artifacts within the space industry that will keep the MS & SC engaging multi-faceted and reflect the rapid and prolific development of science education and space technology. Plan and develop on-going marketing, promotional and advertising campaigns on the local, state and national level to ensure continuing interest in the center. Analyze and develop special programs, services, materials, educational curriculum, seminars and events for a number of diversified public and private groups including: students, educators, scouts, tour operators, senior citizens and the general public, that increases admissions, gains public awareness and are revenue producing. Examine and interpret statistical information regarding historical and on-going attendance trends and demographic figures to ensure a proper marketing program is in effect. Determine yearly, seasonal schedule of operational days and times and monitor State tourist and economic trends. Assist in the production and presentation of traveling public programs related to science and space technology and the MS & SC for all ages, interest and educational levels, including programs for television, radio, computer networks, newspapers, schools, universities and business and industrial groups. Coordinate with NASA officials direct channels of communications with business leaders through dialogue, seminars and materials. Maintain community outreach program that encourages local and State groups to utilize the MS & SC for public functions. Solicit and coordinate chairpersons to head special committees regarding volunteer activities, memberships, special events, seminars and general activities. Provide supervision, direction and policy interpretation to employees, volunteers and contract labor. Frequent contact with educators, administrators, support personnel, volunteers, students, space enthusiasts, tour groups and community residents in an information dissemination, services and promotional capacity. ADVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES Serve as an advisor and resource person for schools, organizations, special interest groups, the media, college classes and elected officials. COMMITTEES Participate on college committees as required. Additional involvement with community committees includes a lending institution, foundations, elected officials, schools and businesses. EDUCATION Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree preferred . Background in marketing, public relations, education, and administration a plus. EXPERIENCE Three to five years experience in the museum field related to marketing and promotion, education, museum administration, budget, advertising and administration. PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS Must be an individual with excellent communication skills who can work well with a Board of Governors, Board of Trustees, NASA, Smithsonian, tour operators, school groups and the general public. Ability to determine short and long range plans and budgets in a timely fashion as well as create appropriate marketing efforts, programs, service and displays that will ensure adequate revenues important.
