Cultural Resource Management Program, University of Victoria ============================================================ COURSE ANNOUNCEMENT: Curatorship: Indigenous Perspectives ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Indigenous peoples across Canada - and around the world - are reclaiming control of their cultural heritage. This course examines the indigenous perspectives which are reshaping conventional curatorial practices and looks at emerging forms of cultural stewardship. Topics include: - collecting practices and their influence on existing collections - representation: past and present - cultural politics - aboriginal perspectives/aboriginal museums and cultural centres - issues and problems of acquisitions - issues of access and ownership - collections care, handling, and use Instructor: Gerald McMaster is Curator of Contemporary Indian Art at the Canadian Museum of Civilization Dates: June 20-28 Please register by: May 24 (credit, non-credit, transfer credit options available) Fee: $589 Canadian Accommodation - On-campus accommodation available at $60/night(B&B) and $25-32/night (residence).
