Ah, but the ultimate visual aid which has contributed to the destruction of
humanity's ability to get "from here to there" on our own is the colored
lines on the floor at the hospital, the DMV, etc. I say make a game out of
it! If they can get from American History to the National Archives, they get
a prize. People seem motivated when they have a goal.
