---------- Dear friends a thank you to all helpful colleagues who responded to my request about card tables. I am posting the following message on behalf of Klondike National Historic Sites, which has determined that custom making card tables would be too expensive and time consuming. BTY a Wilson Snipe is a long billed shore bird, of the genus Capella, alied to the woodcock and much hunted. perhaps natural history collections might have mounted specimens which have been deaccessioned? I understand the birds were once prominent furnishings in the Commissioner's residence and KNHS would like to recreate the wall mounted display. thanks to all who respond Mac Swackhammer Dawson City Museum Bonjour, Klondike National Historic Sites is looking to acquire the following items for u se in the Commissioner's residence furnishing. A) 2 Wilson snipes: does anyone out there have such beasts in their freezer? in storage and donatable?(some alterations may be made to make them suitable for th e furnishing. We will take good care of them, and will give credit where credit is due! For the opening of the restored Commissioner's Residence next August, we will have an outdoor opening ceremony under the same setting as Martha's tea parties: tent top, folding chairs & the f amous bridge tables. Would you be willing to donate your card table? Even if they don't necessarily d epict the same period, I think it would be neat to have a variety of different models. These tables would be used again in the future for outdoor receptions and reenactment of tea parties at the Commissioner's Residence. Needless to say that we would pre-pay t he shipping cost. Your donation would be greatly appreciated and credit would be gi ven. I also want to thank those of you who replied to our first message, complete wit h all drawings and detailed descriptions. The matter of the card tables has become ver y exciting and filled with humour.
