Position: administrative assistant. 50% FTE, non-exempt. Position to begin March 1, 1996. The Stanford University Museum of Art is seeking a Curatorial Assistant: DESCRIPTION: Provides clerical support to Chief Curator/Associate Director and, as time permits, to curatorial staff of six. Will handle routine correspondence relating to exhibition and publishing projects; respond to some phone and e-mail inquiries. Responsibilities include some Xeroxing/faxing and travel arrangements; some interaction with donors, collectors, dealers, scholars, and museum volunteers; some library work and budget-tracking. In addition, the successful candidtate will serve as a resource to staff, providing basic computing help and, on occasion, reseaching hardware/software problems in addition to performing other tasks as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS: This position requires the ability to work well both independently and as a team member. At least three years office experience and computer experience required. The ability to operate a Macintosh computer is essential with proficiency in Microsoft Word and Filemaker Pro very important; knowledge of a desktop publishing system appreciated. Command of English with excellent grammar, spelling, punctuation, and proofreading skills important; experience in library research and a background in the fine arts desired. A sense of humor and the capacity to organize and jugggle diverse tasks are advantageous attributes as are excellent interpersonal skills, reliability, and punctuality. The candidate should possess the willingness and ability to develop new skills and master new software, network, and mainframe tools in a constantly evolving environment.
