Heather, I do not have first-hand experience with this, but attended an excellent workshop on anoxic pest control given by Mark Gilberg and Vinod Daniel at the '94 WAAC meeting. Gilberg and Daniel provided much practical information on the use, fabrication, and monitoring of easy-to-assemble, effective anoxic systems from the simplest, heat sealable envelope designs to the mention of the conversion of pre-existing fumigation chambers (such as the one at the Glenbow). Mortality rates and treatment schedules were discussed using nitrogen vs other gases since there was a concern that, for example, some wood boring insects such as the cigarette beetle (especially its egg stage), as well as other beetles, are resistant to CO2. On the COOL network, John Burke has a list of materials and supplies for anoxic fumigation systems posted under "Pest Management". Other references at hand are the Jan and Sept '94 WAAC Newsletters, both p. 3. Hope that you find some of these people and references helpful.
