JOB ANNOUNCEMENT Director of Operations Strecker Museum Complex/Department of Museum Studies Baylor University Waco, TX 76798 The Strecker Museum Complex/Department of Museum Studies at Baylor University is seeking an individual with a diverse background in all phases of museum operations to supervise the daily activities of the personnel and facilities encompassing the Complex: the Strecker Museum, the Gov. Bill and Vara Daniel Historic Village, and the Ollie Mae Moen Discovery Center. The successful candidate for this position will serve in a staff position as Director of Operations for the museum, reporting to the Director of the Strecker Museum Complex and the Chair of Museum Studies, and may serve as a faculty member in the Museum Studies undergraduate and graduate programs at Baylor University. The applicant/candidate must demonstate strong management skills and have proven communication/teaching ability with adequate academic background in the field to qualify for an Assistant Professorship in the Department of Museum Studies. Some experience in development of new building design, construction, and maintenance is essential. Qualificatins being sought are: 1) Formal academic training, preferably with a terminal degree plus professional experience enabling the individual to teach in Museum Studies. 2) Minimum of 5 years experience in an administrative position in a museum including financial planning, budget preparation, and grant writing. 3) Scholarly publications, completed exhibits, and/or major public interpretive programs demonstrating familiarity with cultural materials and/or scientific specimens. 4) Ability to read blueprints, plan and carry out all forms of construction/fabrication, and schedule various contractors to achieve maximum efficiency and cost savings. 5) Demonstrated knowledge of collections care and proper storage practices including archival, photographic, library, and information management. 6) Knowledge and experience to maintain all physical facilities for most efficient use of resources both human and energy (electrical, HVAC, filtration, etc.) to provide staff, students, and visitors the best conditions in which to perform their duties, studies, and enjoy the exhibits. 7) Demonstrated ability to research, schedule, plan, and prepare exhibits (temporary, traveling, and permanent) for use in and by the Museum Complex and Department of Museum Studies. A working knowledge of available resources and traveling exhibition opportunities is a must. 8) Demonstated public speaking ability for live audiences of all sizes, academic classes and seminars, and the mass media, including television and films. 9) Demonstrated knowledge of legal concerns related to museums including copyright laws, ADA, OSHA, and other federal guidelines encompassing all museum functions and activities, and the ability to maintain hazardous materials, inventory, and training. 10) Proven record of participation in professional associations and organizations preferably in leadership and/or planning roles.
