OVERVIEW The Transportation Restoration Technology Program of Johnson Technical Institute prepares technicians to enter the various phases of the railroad restoration and/or retrofitting fields. Students receive experience in safety and materials handling, wood trades, machining applications, welding, electrical, hydraulics and pneumatics. EXTERNSHIPS Two eight week externships are a mandatory component of the program. Steamtown National Historic Site in Scranton, PA, is one of the selected locations where students will be assigned. The first externship is held in the summer between the first and second year and the other externship is held during the summer following the second year.
