Seeing Loren Ghiglione's name on this message caught my eye, for I
remember him fondly from my days at Old Sturbridge Village
. But it only reinforced my questions about whether this Newseum is in
fact a museum, or only a glitzy p.r. exercise on behalf of American
corporate journalism. I was troubled by the presentation about the
Newseum at the last AAM meeting, troubled especially about the presence
of so many industry insiders and so much self-advertisement about the
wondrous advances made by our national news professionals. We would
hardly take seriously a steel museum run entirely by steel-industry
types. For all its bluster, is the Freedom Forum really sponsoring a
critical look at the American media? I doubt it.
