Institutional Studies
I applaud the effot to contact visitors some months after they have
seen an exhibition. However, I have two concerns. First, do we know
the differences between those who agree to be contacted and those who
do not?? Studies have encountered reluctance on the part of many of
give out names and phone numbers. Second, what impact does knowing
that we will be contacted have on how much thought we give an
experience? In other words, "experimental affect." In the best of
all possible worlds, we might figure out a way to contact a group
that did not give us their contact information. That, in turn, raises
issues of protection of privacy...
