`Absolutely Mardi Gras: the costume and design of the Sydney Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras' opens at the Powerhouse Museum in Sydney, Australia on 6 February, 1996, featuring the designs, history and highlights of Australia's largest community arts event. Each year the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras parade transforms the streets of Sydney into a colourful and lively spectacle. The parade embodies a sense of celebration and pride in the diversity and creativity of Australia's gay and lesbian communities. The main focus of `Absolutely Mardi Gras' will be on costume, however the design and production of the parade itself - the floats, the props and the posters will be central to the display. the work of individual designers as well as the Mardi Gras Workshop will be featured.
