POSITION TITLE/SERIES AND GRADE: Social Science Technician Grade 5/6/7 SALARY: $19,732/$21,995/$24,441 per annum Promotion potential to Grade 7 if filled at a lower grade. ORGANIZATION: Office of the Assistant Provost for Arts and Humanities Institutional Studies Office DUTY LOCATION: Washington, DC AREA OF CONSIDERATION: All qualified candidates including qualified individuals with a disability. DUTIES: Participates with senior staff in the conduct of surveys and studies of selected issues and topics relevant to the Smithsonian. Performs a limited range of research activities using a variety of social science research techniques, survey methods and data processing hardware/software. Performs personal interviewing, data coding and verification, data entry and tabulation, and develops written, tabular, and graphic presentations. Maintains copy files of questionnaires, data protocols, publications, data analysis, and related materials within the office. Reviews written material for grammatical correctness, clarity and general form. Conducts a variety of interviews and collects data using other methods (as appropriate). Assists in coding of survey data and subsequent statistical analysis using a variety of personal computer and mainframe software packages. Performs limited administrative activities for the office. QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped the candidate with the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position and that is in or related to the position to be filled. Successful completion of 4 years of post-high school education leading to a bachelor's degree may be substituted in full for the grade 5 level. Successful completion of one full year of one full year of graduate level education which is directly related to the work of the position mat be substituted for the grade 7 level. Equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and specialized experience are also qualifying at all three grade levels.
