Patricia, I just want to direct your attention to the latest issue of Chronicle of Higher Education, there is an excellent article concerning Museums and the Internet. My own opinion is that "online exhibits" will never replace the "museum experience". However, going online can allow a depth and breadth of information to be presented, something that may not be possible with traditional exhibits. When I am asked about whether this depth is necessary, I am reminded of study done by the Navy on a hypertext program used for training individuals to assemble a loading cart. Every part of the program got used by at least one of the participants, and only one participant made a mistake (a single mistake). The point is, going online allows those who want or need the expanded opportunity to do dig deeper. If we are truly concerned about our educational mission, then computers are indeed a good tool. --john chadwick [log in to unmask]
