I'm hoping to get some advice form the members of this list. I recently recieved a PhD in physiology from the University of North Carolina, and am very interested in a career in museum work. I'm wondering what are the best ways to go about starting out in such a career. So far, I've volunteered at a local science museum since the beginning of this year, and have just sent off my resume to ASTC for their job bank at the annual meeting. It seems like the best source of job postings is through the monthly ASTC list (which I recieve), but I guess I'm wondering what I might do to make myself a "more attractive" candidate. Do any museums have a sort of post-doc position? I know that I'm not the only recent grad in this sort of position, as I've talked to several others. It seems that although post-docs who want to stay in basic research have a fairly clear road, it`s not cut-and-dry for those of us interested in informal science education. I would love to hear from those of you who went through a similar time, and might have any clues on novel ways to proceed.
