I think Eric is right about using some levity in exhibits to get
people interested, *especially* kids. My fiance was a docent at the
Natural History museum in Ann Arbor, MI, and used to give tours to
school groups. When showing smaller children around, he'd go to the
"hands-on" drawer and pull out a particular fossil. He would hand it
around to each kid and tell them, "this is what scientists call a
'coprolite'. Can anyone guess what that means?" And invariably
after taking a look at it, one child would scream "Dinosaur poo!"
    Sure got their attention....:)
