I am in need of information on original versus reproduced objects in museums.
I'm doing background research and trying to assess the impact of original
objects on museum visitors.
I want to know whether they question the authenticity of
what they see and whether it matters to them if what they see is authentic or
not.
I would like to look at this from the visitors' perspective as well as that of
the museum professional.
My concentration is on objects found in American history
museums, such as the real ruby slippers, the actual dress Jackie Kennedy wore
to the Inaugural Ball, or the original star-spangled banner, etc., but I am
interested in hearing from people in all areas of the museum world.
I would especially appreciate any citations you could provide.
