Some of the Smithsonian museums, including the National Museum of American Art,
 have instituted flexible schedule options.  One popular model here is call the
 9/4/5 compressed schedule.  In a two week pay period, an employee works 8 9 ho
ur days, and one short 8 hour day with one day off every two weeks.  Staff gene
rally love it, but not all supervisors agree.  Most employees choose Friday as
their scheduled day off but it is frequently not possible for an office to hono
r this request.  So, it works well in some situations and not so well in others
