The New Yorker article refers to the computerization of what were previously
called card catalogs, with some cursory reference to the advantages of network-
ing such catalogs on-line in order to determine which library had which
resources.
 
Btw, this week's New Yorker has a short piece in Talk of the Town about
the difficulty in finding directors of major art museums and the changing
demands associated with such a position.
