There is a long article on the Clinton administration and
the arts in today's New York Times.  One thing that caught
my eye in this article is that the entire budget for the National
Endowment for the Arts, which has not changed appreciably in
the last 12 years, is smaller than the Department of Defense's
budget for its 102 military bands (which is only a very small
part of the budget of the Department of Defense.)  The bands
will get about 17 million more than the NEA.
