The Burke Museums request for information on CDROM applications in order to make one one North West Coast Natives raises a number of issues. A number of museums in British Columbia have been considering doing similar projects, but they have all faced the ethical issue of ownership. Many of the designs, stories and songs are still claimed as being owned by various families. While this fact has to a large extent been ignored when museums have developed displays and books, times and technology have changed. A greater understanding of this sense of ownership has developed and thus concerns are raised about a new technology that potentially transmits these material on such a mass scale could effectivly eliminate any chance of traditional control I would be interested in knowing how the Burke are dealing with this issue or how other museums are dealing with similar concerns. Thanks. PS. Thanks for the help on the mystery message question! -- Lee Boyko Sooke Region Museum [log in to unmask]
