Park yourself at one of the ongoing workstations and roll up your sleeves. Dive into the world of CD ROM with the help of roving Explainers. Take your first guided tour through the Internet, or pack for a trip into virtual reality. The Multimedia Playground, a showcase of roadside attractions along the information highway, takes place at the Exploratorium from February 12-March 13. It will make the latest advances in multimedia software accessible and approachable for techno-phobes and aficionados alike, by providing selected multimedia and educational software titles for test drives. The Multimedia Playground is free with admission to the museum. The Multimedia Playground is a kind of public access software trade show (with the hardware to try things out). Ongoing over one month, it includes special presentations of digital imaging, with demonstrations of photo scanning and image enhancement techniques; simple and easy to use virtual reality demonstrations; special effects, from animation to high end digital movie tricks; and lessons in surfing through the Internet, including how to log on, have fun and find what you want from Kidsnet to World Wide Web. This is a rare multimedia event, combining hands-on experimentation, always fun at the Exploratorium, with guided demonstrations and discussions of the latest developments in education and information for the general public. For more specific details on what's on display and special events, call the Multimedia Playground Hotline at (415) 353-0423. In keeping with the Exploratorium's mission of hands-on learning and making technological advances accessible to the public, The Multimedia Playground is a joint presentation of the Exploratorium's Center for Public Exhibition and its Center for Media and Communication.
