MS 269: Visitor Motivations for Selecting Programs March 4 to 30, 2024

While working as a seasonal interpreter with Ohio State Parks and completing research for his M.S. in interpretation degree (1978) John spent two years evaluating park visitor's motivations for selecting and/or attending interpretive programs offered at Mohican State Park.  The results from the research resulting in startling results as to what visitors wanted vs. what interpretive topics were offered.  This course will help you do your own research into visitor studies which can help you increase program attendance and general visitation satisfaction.  A copy of John’s M.S. Thesis will be provided to course participants.

MS 271: Training for Interpretive Trainers May 6 to 31, 2024

Teaching interpretive principles, techniques and practices to new or seasonal staff or docents is a real skill requiring providing lots of “hands on learning experiences” for participants.  Based on 30 years of teaching interpretation training courses, and teaching interpretation at Michigan State University and The Ohio State University, John will share with course participants lots of exercises and techniques for teaching interpretation to others.  A copy of John’s textbook on teaching interpretation to others will be provided as well as copies of interpretive training manuals used by John in his many interpretive training courses world-wide.

You can contact me for any questions and costs.
