The Archives Center at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History invites applications for an Archivist (Access & Outreach). This position will focus on providing public access to the museum’s renowned archival collections and promoting their use and engagement by a broad range of communities. The incumbent will oversee the Archives Center’s reading room and related policies, devise strategies for improved reference services (onsite and remote), scope and manage digitization projects, maintain and develop the Archives’ web presence on various platforms, and plan and perform outreach activities. The museum has been doing extensive work to uncover audience needs, reach a wider range of people, and reconsider the ways we serve the public. Help us make archives a part of that transformation!

 

Competitive candidates will have experience performing a range of reference and outreach activities for an archival institution or organization, as well as digitizing collections. More specific qualifications are outlined in the job announcement listed below.

 

Starting Salary GS-11 - $78,592 per year, plus benefits, with promotion potential to GS-12.
