Description: This internship will provide a wide range of experience working with collections management activities within an active National Park Service (NPS) museum and archives program. Work may include processing and cataloging collections from multiple discipline types, maintaining environmental conditions through integrative pest management and temperature/humidity monitoring, assisting with preservation activities including specialty re-housing of materials, and preparing items and spaces for tours, tribal object studies, and researchers. Additional projects will include repository inventories, collection documentation, and working under the guidance of the curator and archivist on additional projects identified during the internship period. The intern will work both independently and in a team environment. This internship will be a practical real-world experience to supplement formal museum studies education in a supportive environment. 

The internship site is located in an NPS-leased facility on the University of New Mexico campus where collections for both Chaco Culture National Historical Park (Nageezi, NM) and Aztec Ruins National Monument (Aztec, NM) are managed. The combined collection includes 3.1 million documents, objects, and specimens from archeology, history, biology, geology, art, and archival disciplines. Peer intern references will be provided to candidates upon request during the interview phase.
