Developing Meaningful Volunteer Programs for Parks, Nonprofits and Museums is an online course designed for anyone interested in creating or improving a volunteer program.  Upon completion participants will understand the key elements necessary for a sustainable volunteer program that offers rewarding volunteer experiences.

Tailored to meet your goals, the course combines readings, practical assignments and live feedback with instructor Jennifer Burke.  Together, we’ll work through real world assignments - such as developing a volunteer handbook - that will provide you with tools and templates you can use in your own program.  The 10-unit course covers topics including:

- Developing your volunteer program’s mission and goals;
- How to attract, recruit and screen the right volunteers;
- How to manage volunteers (including difficult volunteers); and more.

You may also bring to the course any work-related project you would like to develop or improve.  Upon completion you'll be awarded a Certificate of Completion and 1.5 CEU (Continuing Education Unit) credits through the *Heritage Interpretive Training Center. This course is led by instructor Jennifer Burke who has held executive management positions that span urban, suburban and rural settings.  Early in her career, she created the first docent program for New York City’s Central Park and later went on to provide volunteer program evaluation, consulting and project management services at some of our nation’s most cherished parks, historic sites and nonprofit agencies. Examples include projects associated with the 850-mile Potomac Heritage National Scenic Trail, Chesapeake & Ohio Canal National Historic Park, Blue Ridge Center for Environmental Stewardship, and others. Jennifer is extremely grateful for the opportunity to serve these organizations over the past 25 years and looks forward to helping you create the best possible volunteer program for your needs.
