Hello!
We have used hands on objects as part of our tours. 3 D printed repilicas or items from your education collection. We do a stop on the tour and play What Is That? with historical household objects such as Victorian toasters, chamber pots, rug beaters etc. Kids and adults really get into it.
I have seen Eye Spys work well in another museum I worked as as an educator. A laminated sheet with clues and visual images to look for along the way.
Scavenger hunts are also popular,  we have placed Mummy's around the museum that kids have to find. They are given pencils and a sheet with clues about the artifact or historical theme they are looking for. Popular with kids but some educators are not fans of scavenger hunts.
Depending on the size of the group and time constraints learning stations with a hands on componant are also fun. Maybe they work as a team to erect a civil war tent, or try on replica uniforms, or visit a station to examine replica contents of a haversac.
Hope this helps, I am willing to help brainstorm ideas as well!

Hey Listers - I have been tasked with creating tour programming for kids, and I'm a bit stuck. I'm much more versed in adult programming. Does anyone have any ideas or examples of tours for kids that they're willing to share? We have the capability to do a lot with living history, and our education collection is pretty strong. Background: We used to be a period house museum turned history museum with a 4 acre campus. Looking to do something with some of our historic structures and our education garden. I'm just not sure where to take it. Any guidance would be appreciated.

Thanks everyone!
