I'm working with my institution (James Madison's Montpelier) to determine what is an appropriate "going rate" for scholars. 

We often bring scholars to our site for talks and for multi-day professional development sessions. We generally pay $500 per person for anything less than an 8-hour day, and $1,000 per person per day for professional development sessions. We pay travel in addition to those rates.

We're trying to get a sense of if that's standard for the field or if we are short-changing our scholars.
