We give free use of our research room, including help from the archives manager, to all members, and non-members pay a flat $5 fee to come in. At high membership levels, I believe we give a certain amount of free research by the archives manager, but for everyone else it’s half an hour free, then $25 per (I believe) half hour.

Hello, our museum is planning, beginning October 1, of charging a use fee to utilize our research archives. Our director is looking at the cost of staff assisting visitors on research requests and perpetual maintenance of the materials (we do not receive any state or local funding for this purpose). Does anyone currently charge for these services and if so, how much? We are looking at an hourly fee, but would like to hear what others do or have tried.
