Collections Manager Position open at the Kodiak Historical Society.

 

The Kodiak Historical Society (KHS) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization
incorporated in 1954 with a mission to preserve and share Kodiak history.
KHS and the Baranov Museum are located within a c. 1808 National Historic
Landmark facility, owned by the City of Kodiak, for which the KHS provides
general on-site stewardship. The Collections Manager serves a critical role
in the mission of the Baranov Museum, ensuring the development and ongoing
access to many of the institution's unique and distinct collections for use
by community members, researchers, partner institutions, and the general
public. As a leadership position on the Baranov Museum team, the Collections
Manager participates in policy, service, and strategic plan development.

Qualifications:

*	Master's degree in Museology, Public History, Historic Preservation,
History, Archaeology, Anthropology or closely related field; or Bachelor's
degree in above field and three years of experience in history-related
museum.
*	Two or more years of experience in a museum, cultural center or
archive, including work with collections, as well as one year in supervisory
capacity; or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
*	Research experience and capability required; experience with Alaska
history preferred.
*	Considerable knowledge of professional museum principles and
practices.
*	Must possess strong verbal and written communication skills, an
understanding of interpretive writing, and the ability to communicate ideas
in a variety of written and oral formats.
*	Experience in grant research and writing preferred.
*	Must be able to independently organize, develop, plan and produce
projects.
*	Must be able to interact effectively with all age levels and
cultural backgrounds; bilingual skills are a plus.
